The Beginning

Born out of pure boredom at Georgia Southern University the Black and Mild Invitational is truly a tradition unlike any other. In 2013 at Copper Beech the first group of competitors all lined up to take place in a putt-putt tournament. What was at stake? A lot of pride, and a single Black and Mild wine wood tip. The inaugural winner, Kyle Porche, is the only solo champion in the history of the event. He described the winning feeling as “the sweetest and tastiest feeling in the world.” From that moment on a tradition was born.

The Black and Mild Invitational has now grown in to the cornerstone major event of the BPGA season. Each year players come from far and wide to compete. The goal; to capture the elusive wine wood tip and etch their name in the record books forever.

The Jacket

The green jacket was introduced the following year. This jacket, along with the sleeve of Black and Mild wine wood tips now became what every competitor longed for. As the field size has grown each year since its inception, the odds of having a chance to win have grown increasingly slim.

The Tournament

Here Ye! Here Ye! Hosted at the beautiful Sapelo Hammock Golf Club in Shellman Bluff GA. The Black and Mild invitational is a 4-man scramble tournament. Previously only a one day tournament the committee moved to a two day tournament in the 2020 event. Players ranging from scratch handicap to 35 handicaps all compete on a level playing field vying for a chance to contribute to their team. Each competitor is carefully hand picked and the tournament is proud to say the retention rate is 100% for new competitors. The field has expanded to 8 full teams in 2020 with the ultimate goal to have a full 72 man tournament by 2025.
